The Lilac Inn, VT
A honest review of the bed & breakfast and the town of Brandon, Vermont.
Nestled in the heart of Brandon, Vermont, a town renowned for its rustic charm and picturesque landscapes, lies a hidden gem that captures the essence of New England’s beauty and tranquility – The Lilac Inn. With its 9 cozy bedrooms, abundant blooms in spring, proximity to Lake Dunmore, and delightful dining experiences, The Lilac Inn offers an idyllic retreat for those seeking a peaceful getaway. I was lucky enough to experience the entire hotel as we were there for a wedding, and the party was able to book the entire space. It was an extremely intimate and sweet experience!
We did the drive from the Burlington area, it was about a 3 hour drive and it was one of the most therapeutic drives of my life. Lots of country roads, farmhouses, cows and picturesque towns and hillsides. It was quintessential Vermont and the type of scenery you’re just not going to get in the Burlington area.
Along the way...
The quaintness of The Lilac Inn is a reflection of the surrounding town of Brandon. With only one stoplight to its name, Brandon embraces a slow-paced, rural way of life that’s becoming increasingly rare. Stepping into the town feels like taking a step back in time, where charming boutiques, antique shops, and local cafes line the streets. The simplicity of life here is a stark contrast to the bustling urban centers, offering visitors a chance to reconnect with nature and find solace in the unhurried pace of a country town. My favorite was the cute little bookstore nestled along the Neshobe River.

The shimmering waters of the lake beckon travelers to explore its depths, whether by kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply lounging by the shore. The lake’s serene beauty fosters a sense of peace, making it a perfect place for contemplation or simply unwinding as the sun sets over the water. So many quaint cabins surround the lake which is also surrounded by Branbury State Park and SIlver Lake State Park. There’s no shortage of fresh air here.

Just a short journey away from The Lilac Inn lies the tranquil oasis of Silver Lake State Park. This small state park offers a pristine escape into Vermont’s wilderness, inviting adventurers to explore its hiking trails and immerse themselves in nature’s embrace.
