2 Nights in Athens
We arrive at 10 am and I’ve managed to book an inexpensive Airbnb close to the train that will take us to Piraeus Port for when we set sail to Milos. We have just under 2 full days in this historical city – so we are planning on doing a “Hop on, Hop off” bus tour to maximize everything that we want to see – many museums also come included with the ticket so that is great news!

3 Nights in Milos
I couldn’t decide which island to explore first – so I simply based it off of the ferry times. I decided on Milos which is about a 3 hour ride and departs at 11 am from Piraeus Port. I would recommend investigating that option when you start looking at ferry rides and different islands. Please note there are also several different ports in Greece. Also, I think it is important to note, I did consider flying to any of the islands but it just became a lot more expensive to do so – If you have the extra funds, Id recommend flying to save time.
https://www.ferryhopper.com/en/#search Ferry hopper was my friend when booking the round trip ticket from
Piraeus –> Milos –> Santorini –> Rafina as it creates the itinerary for you. There are several different ferry companies and I just found this site to be super useful.
This is where I found out that you need an International Drivers Permit to rent a car in Greece. Taxis are non existent and super expensive and there is no public transportation. The good news is – getting an international drivers license is cheap – $20 and 10 minute trip to any AAA. The rental was 60 Euros a day – I want to die with how expensive that is – but it’s a must on the island. Also, August is peak season and that is also another reason the prices are high. You can also look at renting an ATV which sounds like fun – but to me, the car is better and more secure for my travel items.
2 Nights in Santorini
We set sail from Milos around 10 am and we arrive in Santorini just before noon! Our Airbnb is PERFECT and right in the town of Thira. I opted to not rent a car here – but if I change my mind there are several car rentals at the port to choose from. Hoping to score a good deal!

So all in all id say:
1. Book your Airbnb central to the city, and close to the metro line to get to and from any of the ports.
2. Check the ferry hopper schedule and create perfect itinerary
3. Anything over 3 hours – consider flying to instead to save some time.
4. Get your International License and rent a car
