Treasure Island Florida – The Best Gulf Coast Beach

Treasure Island Florida – The Best Gulf Coast Beach

Treasure Island Florida got its name from the early hotel owner who buried and then “discovered” a couple of wooden chests on the beach. This of course created much attention and the name forever stuck! I love Treasure Island because it still feels very small town with most shops being locally owned. Gaining popularity over the years TI has developed a much younger crowd which hasn’t been a bad thing! We have some amazing festivals that people flock to, which include the Seafood & Music Festival that happens every October.

Although I’m sure some people still come in hopes of finding buried treasure people mostly come now for the town’s three miles of white sandy beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. Beyond Treasure Island is a string of sleepy beach towns all with their own vibes, seafood restaurants and events. Mile marker 0 starts at Pass-a-griile and mile marker 25 ends in Clearwater and these fun scenic marker signs can be seen all along the route. It’s honestly one of my favorite drives and it only takes about 45 mins (on a good day with no traffic) to see all of these beach towns. If you do not have transportation the beach trolley will take you anywhere that you want to go along the Gulf. It’s a fun way to get around!

Treasure Island is the ideal location for exploring ALL of Florida’s gulf coast beaches because of it’s centric location. You can expect a tight nit community with a great mix of mom and pop cafes and tourism. After all, the iconic Johns Pass is the center of everything Treasure Island – and it catches the attention of most visitors.

A historic favorite, John’s Pass has a fun atmosphere that’s great for families during the day and tropical beach bars for night life. Try any of the seafood restaurants on the pier or do some shopping at the quirky little shops. If you have an itch for adventure you can find all kinds of excursion companies on the boardwalk who are ready to take you out for parasailing or ferrying over to Shell Island. The beach is directly across the street and if I could recommend a time to go to John’s Pass it would be right before sunset after you’ve spent most of the day soaking up the sun. The best part is that our vacation home is only a 5 minute walk from John’s Pass. You really cannot beat the location for experiencing this unique area!
