Corona Virus Travel Ban April 2020

Corona Virus Travel Ban April 2020

This information is straight from the CDC folks and this is how it’s looking for us fellow travelers. Just like you I am itching to get away but take heed to the cautionary advice from the CDC. If you are asking yourself “should I travel within the US” please take this information in consideration.

Is Covid-19 spreading in the area you’re going?

There are several things you should consider when deciding whether it is safe for you to travel and this should be one of them. If you have questions about your destination, you should check your destination’s local health department website for more information. State or local governments have also issued their own restrictions and you can check those out here .

Will you or your travel companion(s) be in close contact with others during your trip?

You’re risk of exposure is increased if you are in any type of “crowd” setting of 5 or more people. This may include conferences, public events like concerts, religious gatherings etc etc.

Are you or your travel companion(s) more likely to get severe illness if you get COVID-19?

People at higher risk for severe disease are older adults and people of any age with serious underlying medical conditions such as heart disease, lung disease or diabetes.

Things to consider after travel

Do you plan on taking time off from work or school, in case you are told to stay home for 14 days for self monitoring or if you get sick with covid-19?

If you have close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 during travel, you may be asked to self quarantine and avoid contact with others up to 14 days. If you are unable to do this I would not recommend traveling for any reasons.

Do you live with someone older who has an underlying issue?

If you live with someone with a compromised immune system you might be putting their life at risk if you develop COVID-19 due to traveling. Any person older with an underlying health problem are at higher risk of developing complications with COVID-19.

Is Covid spreading where you live?

You may not realize that you are infectious if your symptoms are mild or you don’t have a fever. Consider the risk of passing Covid-19 to others during travel, particularly if you will be in close contact with people who are older adults or have serious underlying medical conditions.

If you must travel, be sure to take steps to help prevent getting and spreading COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases during travel. You can adhere to these steps here.
